Hi everyone!
We hope you are enjoying the warm weather and the beauty of spring.
Taylor
is doing just great! He celebrated his 5th birthday on March 31st and he is proudly telling everyone that he is 5 years old now. He had a Hot Wheels themed birthday party with about 15 of his friends. We also had a family party and celebrated his birthday, as well as my nephew Josh’s 5th birthday. They are only five days apart. We call them the almost twin cousins.
Taylor
is doing great in school. He is writing words now and beginning to read as well. I hear him in the back seat sounding out words on signs and trucks as we drive along. He loves to tell me what letter things begin with. Even 22 month old Cameron is getting in on the action. He sings the ABC song and already knows a few letters by recognition! Now that Cameron is getting older, the two boys are having a lot of fun together. Cameron has to do everything
Taylor
does, the naughty and the nice.
Taylor
also loves to ride with Grandpa on his motorcycle! My dad tells us that during the whole ride
Taylor
holds onto the back of him yelling, “Faster Grandpa faster!” He’s only 5, but he’s a huge thrill seeker.
Taylor
had his check up at Sloan Kettering last month. Ironically, we were there the morning after Dana Reeves passed away from Lung cancer in the very same hospital. We were in the waiting area in radiology awaiting
Taylor
’s chest x-ray when the news of her death was being covered on television. I later learned that Peter Jennings was treated at MSK as well. Our hearts and prayers go out to those families.
Taylor
’s check up went very well. Although small for his age, he is growing sufficiently and gaining a little more weight each time we go there. He now weighs 32 pounds and he’s 41 inches tall. They want him to begin seeing Sloan Kettering’s Endocrinologist. It’s part of the post treatment plan for patients who have received radiation in a limb. They will track his growth and measure his hip and leg bones to see his progress, especially since the growth plate was involved. They are also able to do tests to see how fragile those bones are after radiation. If you ask me, I think he’s ok! My child frequently yells, “Look Mom!” followed by a huge jump off a flight of stairs, playground stuff, our driveway wall, etc! However, from what they tell me, the bones affected by radiation can become weaker as he grows so we won’t know to what extent for years to come. So far so good though!
Taylor
’s next check up is on May 9th.
We will be sure to update the site after that date. His next scans are scheduled for early July. That will be here before we know it!
We love you all,
Jen, Matt, Taylor, and Cameron
